"Blue Yonder" is our new beer. It is a hand brewed, organic, bottle conditioned ale that uses spring water, organic English malted wheat and barley, organic raw cane sugar and Lustleigh grown organic blueberries.
Most fruit beer produced in the UK uses fruit flavouring and sugar and not real fresh fruit on its own. We are pretty certain that Blue Yonder is the first beer to use Devon or even British grown blueberries.
The blueberries are added to the fermentation stage of the brewing process so that their flavour and colour infuse with the ale. The ale is then bottled and stored for a month or more for the ale to fully condition.
It has an ABV of 4.5%
It is not overtly sugary like some European fruit beer, Nick and Toby wanted a straightforward beer to drink with meals. Rather than adding a strong fruit flavour the blueberries modify the beer giving it a rounded smooth taste.
As a conditioned ale it is best served at room temperature. Chilling it will suppress the flavour and add a slight bitterness to the taste.
It is brewed exclusively for us by Stuart Thomson of Atlantic Brewery www.atlanticbrewery.com in Newquay who over the years has developed an expertise in combining fruits and other ingredients into his range of dining ales.
